Members of the Facebook group “Central Coast Chisme” have deleted many posts regarding the Latinx community. More recently, one member was blocked for posting information regarding the equal pay protests going on in our local berry fields. The group stated the post was “too political”, yet they allowed others to post about gathering more people to wave American flags during a BLM protest. Additionally, one of the members has made racist remarks towards the Latinx community. You can see the screenshots of that by clicking on the link below:

   Overall, it is clear that the Central Coast Chisme group does not see eye-to -eye with the Latinx community. Therefore, many local members of the Latinx community have suggested that the group change their name to something that doesn’t use the word “chisme”. If the group does not allow posts regarding the Latinx community, using “chisme”,the Spanish word for “gossip”,  just doesn’t make sense.

   If you agree, please sign this petition to show the admins of the group that we see their racist remarks and we do not accept this type of behavior in our community.
