Stop the excessing of the teachers Brendan Crowe and Elizabeth Genovese
The Issue
IN-Tech Academy Alumni, Students, and Parents:
Please help stop the school Administrators from excessing passionate and dedicated teachers like Dr. Crowe and Ms. Genovese. Read below and share our story!
As alumni of IN-Tech Academy in the Bronx, we share memories of teachers who have pushed us to our maximum potential. Some of us entered IN-Tech when the building had first opened in the Fall of 2004. IN-Tech Academy was a token of new beginnings and had a very promising future. Most of us were there for both middle school and high school--having witnessed the school’s development from year to year. Throughout the years, we were pushed to set higher expectations for our future. We were challenged by dedicated teachers who genuinely cared for us. Their passion and commitment showed when they helped us apply to summer programs and colleges, succeed in regents exams by holding after-school programs, chaperoned trips overseas, and even encouraged us to participate in the televised academic quiz show The Challenge. Because of our hardworking teachers, we stepped out of our comfort zones and accomplished things we never would have imagined in high school. Our teachers were an integral part of our school’s community. They became our mentors as well as our friends.
We are writing this petition because we were informed that the IN-Tech Administration will be excessing our beloved teachers Dr. Brendan Crowe and Ms. Elizabeth Genovese. Excessing is not the same as firing. It means that they lose their placement at IN-Tech. Although we no longer attend IN-Tech, we are worried for the future of our school. We would like for other students to also gain rewarding experiences from being their students. When we visit the school, we can not help but notice the new faces we see each year. Our favorite teachers are replaced yearly, teachers who have their students’ best interests at heart.
The teachers are gone because of the heavy-handed, incompetency of the school’s Administration, headed by Yvette Allen. This administration is misguided. They do not share the same love and care Dr. Crowe and Ms. Genovese have for their students. The Administration thinks that a group of students is as good as the next, that one group of teachers is just like the next. The bonds that students and teachers develop prove that this is wrong. Teachers can be more than just authority figures, they can be friends, confidants, and even mother and father figures, too.
The Administration does anything in its power to embellish the school’s image. They have forced students to take regents exams before they felt prepared for them. Assistant Principals with no prior experience in math were in charge of monitoring math teachers. There have been rumors that the administration forced teachers to fix grades to increase passing rates. Teachers who refused had problems with the Administration, which often led to their dismissal.
We still have time to stop the unjust school Administration and keep Dr. Crowe and Ms. Genovese as part of our IN-Tech community. Some of us live in walking distance of the school or have relatives who are currently attending IN-Tech. IN-Tech is an important part of the Kingsbridge community. Please help us build a better future for these students. We ask you to please sign the petition and spread the word. It is time to take action.
