Change David Starr Jordan High School name to Ella Baker High School

Change David Starr Jordan High School name to Ella Baker High School
The Issue
For too long we've allowed monuments in the name of racists and bigots to remain a city staple. We no longer accept that our school can be tarnished by the name of such a disgusting person. One of the many forms of racism that exists today is the embedded history we put in our society. David Starr Jordan was a man who believed that whites should not mix their lineage with nonwhites in order to "preserve a superior blood line. He also believed and advocated for the sterilization of POC in order to prevent them from spreading their genetics into the human gene pool. Despite all of this our proudly diverse school is still named after him. Ella Baker was an African-American civil rights and human rights activist. She spoke out about racism and sexism with the civil right movements. Ella Baker needs to be recognized as one of the many civil rights leaders that history has tried to bury. We owed it to the past to keep them alive and bring up the conversation of how many other people that are important black figures.
