STOP J AND J TRASH CO FROM MOVING INTO OUR RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD NOW ! ! ! !

The Issue

Stewart Meekins of Meekins Construction Co., wants to sell his property that is zoned "conservation" at 3233 Murray Rd., Finksburg, MD 21048 to Jackson Haden Jr. of J and J Trash Co. of Hampstead. This neighborhood is on a dead end street that is 100% Residential and Agricultural with only one exception- Stewart Meekins's property - which has a non-conforming use as the Reservoir Trailer Park and an equipment storage yard. This has been tolerated for decades. Within the last few months, Jackson Haden Jr. of J and J Trash Co. has asked the Carroll County Zoning Board if instead of just using the property as an Equipment storage yard, could they buy it and just substitute the use and run their Trash company from there.  On June 29th, the county said (AND THIS PART IS UNBELIEVABLE), the county zoning board said YES, GO AHEAD! and run your trash company from this location.

This business will be run on top of the family's with children living in that trailer park that will be stuck there with no where to move their trailer to and no way to sell with a trash company right in the middle of their neighborhood .  And, too bad for the rest of the surrounding property owners that will see their property values drop and their quality of life decline as day after day after day the extra traffic of 20+ trash truck drivers and operators coming in every morning and then getting in their truck's and driving right back out again, trucks driving in and out throughout the day with dumpsters. The proposed owner has stated in the zoning board meeting that it is his intentions  to grow the business. The trash truck traffic will only increase as the company grows. This truck traffic will be driving right through the trailer park, the use in common drive, Murray Road and Old Westminster Road.  Just imagine relaxing in your own yard surrounded by woods, fields and other private residences, watching your children or grandchildren play as the rumble and smell of trash trucks roll by your once peaceful home.  Carroll County zoning board may enjoy bending over for big businesses but the Families of our neighborhood have no intention of bending over for Jackson Haden Jr. of J and J Trash Co. or Stewart Meekins of Meekins Construction Company.

Garbage contains every type of toxins and hazardous material imaginable from battery acid to bleach, from pesticides to blood and hypodermic needles.  Even radioactive waste material has reportedly been found in normal residential trash from time to time.  Trash is often filled with vermin such as rats and mice, roaches and other foraging pests.  Birds, raccoons and even the occasional bear will dip into the trash whenever possible for a quick and easy meal.  Even contact with dead rodents can result in diseases like rat-bite fever, which causes fever, skin lesions and flu-like symptoms.

These trash trucks would be driving straight through the center of reservoir Trailer Park, down a long common driveway and through the Murray Road and Old Westminster Pike residential neighborhood.  There would barely be enough room for trucks to pass one another.  This road and common drive are filled with people, young and old, walking dogs, riding bikes, walking to work, taking leisurely strolls, waiting for the school bus, etc.  Children are constantly playing on the common drive and through the trailer park as they have no where else to play.
