This petition is intended to clearly convey to MDUSD and the board that we feel it would be of benefit to all stakeholders to delay the start of the 2020/21 school year to September. In order to facilitate a full year of learning the end date of the year could be shifted to later in June. AUSD has already made this shift (they begin on 9/1/2020 and finish 6/17/2021). 

We are currently in the early stages of a global pandemic and admin, teachers and parents all need TIME to implement the school reopening plan that is eventually decided upon by the district. 3 days is not enough time for teachers to be able to provide a robust and effective distance or hybrid model of education. In addition to this once a plan is released parents need time to be able to find childcare solutions in order to make this work for all individual family circumstances.
