As a resident in the West Campus are in Austin, Texas, I have witnessed and experienced the severity of the over crowded homeless population present. Because many homeless people in the community are not mentally stable, this tends to pose a threat to the community and its students, especially being on or in the vicinity of the University of Texas. If this petition raises enough signatures, this may raise awareness to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants Program to build a shelter that is more local to the West Campus area. With a safe and giving place for the homeless people to sleep, we will not only provide food and shelter for the homeless population, but minimize threats and conflict in the west campus area.
