Support New McKinney Golf Course to replace closing Golf Course
The Issue
We need 1000 signatures. The Golf Club at McKinney was a vibrant, profitable and well maintained golf club just 4 to 5 years ago. The current ownership has seen a drastic decline in membership due to mismanagement and has decided to sell the golf course to a developer who wants to turn the golf course into a multi-family and commercial property "village". The sale is contingent upon successful rezoning of the golf course property into commercial and multi-family use. If the sale goes through, the developer has agreed to split the zoning between the part of the golf course that resides in a flood plain and the land that will be built upon. Once split, the developer has agreed to build a clubhouse, a driving range, a practice facility and additional holes on city property across highway 5 adjacent to the existing holes that reside in the flood plain. Additionally, the developer has agreed to rearrange some of the existing holes to better accommodate the proposed 18-hole golf course along with the hike and bike trails that the city would put throughout the property that would connect to the existing trails at Town Lake Park. The proposed land is already owned by the city and designated for park/recreational use. Further, the developer has agreed to give the land that he purchases to the city so that the city would own and operate an 18-hole golf course. The developer would receive tax incentives for his gift to the city that would help with the village development and also help offset his costs for building out the full 18-hole golf course. The entire scenario is a win for everyone....the City receives and 18 hole golf course and additional hike and bike trails along with the recreational acreage donated by the developer. The developer builds his village for some much needed development of the east side of McKinney. The homeowners remain on an 18-hole golf course to maintain and stabilize the property values.
