Bradley Murray started this petition to McDonald's

Waste from McDonalds containers is significant. Every day, people buy frappes, coffees and soft drinks from McDonalds, and simply put the used container in to the bin (and in to land fill).

In the USA, McDonalds have 'claimed' that they are working towards a solution - and that creating biodegradable drinking containers is a 'challenge' they are working towards. You can read about it here: https://www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-mcdonalds-recycle-6-billion-cups-2018-8/?r=AU&IR=T

Furthermore, McDonalds have publicly committed to changing their practices with regards to packaging by 2025. See here: https://www.edie.net/news/5/McDonalds-and-Waitrose-lead-business-charge-against-plastics/

BUT, that is more than five years away, and change needs to happen now!!

Many cafes in Australia already serve coffee in fully compostable containers (both the cup and lid). So, far a large multinational to claim they are working on it, when products like this already exist and are being used daily, is both lazy and irresponsible.

For coffee cups, here is just one example of the many that exist in Australia already:

And for softdrinks and frappes:

My petition is simple - to get McDonalds to create partnerships with an existing local manufacturers (for example, the two suppliers listed above) of biodegradable food and drinking containers, and begin to make a REAL difference. Rather than wait until they figure out how to manufacture these containers themselves, they can form strategic partnerships, in each territory, in the meantime (while still researching their own means of manufacturing). Change from an individual level is great, but for significant change to occur, the large companies responsible for all of this waste need to take action.

Please sign my petition to appeal to McDonalds to change their practices (NOW - this year) in regards to single use food and drink containers, by engaging the services of one of the many companies that manufacture 'green' food packaging. Waiting to 'find their own solution' through research is not good enough! The world's oceans can't wait until 2025. Action needs to be taken now!
