McDonalds Fulford Road

The Issue

McDonalds are planning to open a new store in the old Iceland supermarket, on Fulford Road, in south York.  We are not an Anti-McDonalds group, but we are against this proposal in this quiet residential area. If you'd like to fight this, please sign this petition. The local residents, the local concillors, the Schools are all against this, and are busy collecting evidence to bring to the planning commitee - but you can help too by signing this petition. We need many voices to be heard.  The main arguments against this are...

TRAFFIC. This is one of the main arteries into York, and the busiest. Any new development that attracts additional traffic is unacceptable. Currently the traffic at commute times, is daily at a standstill. During the busy tourist seasons, the traffic can take a hour to flow up the length of Fulford Rd. I feel we must argue against anything that will bring additional traffic, especially at breakfast and tea time. This will affect your commute!
5 LOCAL SCHOOLS. The site is very close to Danesgate School, Steiner York, Fulford High, St Georges and Fishergate Primary. McDonalds, will attract people to loiter and congregate around them, encouraging children to come and take their lunch there, taking them out of school, and away from healthier options. And instead of taking the bus straight home from school, the children will have a reason to hang around longer, before, during and after school.
PARKING: The site has a shared carpark, which can often be 80% full at busy times. The overspill will affect the neighbouring streets.
NOISE.  Many McDonalds, even in residential areas, can be open 24hrs a day as ‘dark-sites’ providing afterhours trade to its online delivery riders. This one will definitely be open for trade between 7am and 11pm, with staff arriving and leaving outside those hours. This is unacceptable in a currently quiet residential area.
POLLUTION. From both the fumes and the extra litter. Fast food takeaways are a huge factor in street litter, and no matter how many bins McDonalds say they will install, the litter on our streets will increase, especially on Millenium Fields. The greasy fumes and smell from a restaurant like this will cover the area, and any laundry the local residents hang out to dry!
