McDonald’s is doubling down on chicken — but where are the plant-based choices?

As reported by NBC News, McDonald’s and other major chains are shifting their menus toward chicken, citing rising beef costs and changing consumer preferences.

Yet in the U.S., McDonald’s has no vegan chicken options on the menu.

This is a missed opportunity.

In Germany, McDonald’s has already introduced McPlant Nuggets — plant-based nuggets made from peas, corn, and wheat — in over 1,400 locations. The McPlant burger, co-developed with Beyond Meat, is also available in several European countries.

But in the U.S., the McPlant burger was discontinued after limited trials, and there are currently NO vegan chicken options available.

It’s time for McDonald’s to catch up. 

We’re calling on McDonald’s to introduce vegan chicken options, such as plant-based nuggets or sandwiches, in U.S. locations.

Provide fully vegan menu items, cooked separately from meat products and free from animal-derived ingredients.
Offer affordable, accessible plant-based choices for customers seeking alternatives to meat.

Expanding vegan options isn’t just good for business — it’s good for the planet, animal welfare, and the millions of Americans seeking plant-based meals.
