McDonald's and FOX

McDonald's and FOX

The Issue

Has anyone experienced this?   I stop in a McDonald's off I-95, and I sit down to eat.  There is a TV up on the wall with FOX NEWS blaring out (well, you know what they blare out).  I ask an attendant if I can change the channel, and she says it is not allowed.  I ask that it be turned off.  Again, not allowed.  I ask for the manager.   He tells me the same thing and looks dumbfounded when I infer that FOX is not really a news channel, but a biased commentary.

I ask for a home office number, go home and call.  It seems a bit suspicious sounding, but they insist they are the "home office."  I look it up online later and call a different number.  They tell me the first number was to the owner. . . and they take my complaint and send it straight back to the owner.  The owner calls me back and is irritated I called "the higher ups," and insist they have a right to put anything in their restaurant they want (which of course I cannot fault).

I call the national number again, and insist that they mail to me a STATEMENT of McDonald's policy on TVs in their restaurants, and how they prefer the requests of their customers be handled.  The lady said, and I quote: "you can always go sit in the play section."  (Still waiting for this in writing.)

I have begun to notice more and more that we are subjected to TVs in public places tuned to FOX . . doctor's offices, pharmacies, car repair lobbies, etc. etc. . . . many times with signs that say "do not change the channel."

In light of the recent Supreme Court decision, I think it would be wise if we all start noticing the subtle "brain-washing" by businesses and corporations, and maybe consider starting initiatives as consumers to fight back.

Please sign my petition to let McDonald's know we are NOTICING what they choose to broadcast in their restaurants, and will be making our choices on patronage accordingly.
