I have a friend who used to sell high end automotive products including LUND truck products. LUND used to have the saying, "Lead With Lund!" I am not ready to apply that advertising to Kim yet.
However, I am happy to say that she finally has started a meaningful conversation about broadband with me via her tech expert husband Gil.
Again, I do not provide endorsements anymore. Those who have followed this petition and my articles for a long time know that endorsements don't mean much. How many times have we had candidates say they were progressive to get votes only to do next to nothing once in office? Don't we supposedly have 3 "progressive" PUD commissioners? Yet where is our PUD's commitment to county-wide fiber?
However, I can say that the Lund campaign is currently having the most meaningful conversation with me about broadband among all of the candidates. Again, McAuley supports Dig Once but hasn't said much about the other aspects of broadband. The other mayoral candidates don't seem to care at all. Some, while serving as city council members, even sat on the existing public network during the entire pandemic and tolerated the big telecom BAG that the city put together. Of course, I'm speaking of Kristina Martens. It is always sad when a candidate refuses to educate themselves on this issue since public fiber would help us address most of our social and economic issues and they've literally had years to do it. I guess reading a single, easy to read, 264 page book like "Fiber" is just too much for the other candidates to do over a 4, or more, year period.
So, the best I can do is say that I am comfortable placing Kim and Mike on equal footing for broadband as of today. I hope this isn't just the establishment lying to us again just to get votes. After all, what's more reasonable than a Dig Once policy and using our existing network? Why is that so hard to get our government to do? Easy, corruption. Will any of these candidates address this corruption and fire ultra-corrupt public works director Erick Johnston? None of them will make a public commitment to that so far.
