The recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd have deeply impacted the nation's minority communities. We can no longer remain silent on salient issues that causes racial inequality. Due to the protests around the world, we are demanding the eradication of several figures and statues that symbolizes hatred towards African Americans.

   The citizens of Heidelberg, MS call for the removal of the confederate statue  at the Mary Weems Parker Memorial Library which represents superiority and inferiority of one race over another.  The statue's removal will allow citizens to feel more inclusive in their neighborhood while eliminating the painful history of slavery and racial discrimination. We ask for Mayor Carr to use his civil duties and support our request.  As Dr. Martin Luther King so eloquently quoted, "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." The mayor,  the county supervisors, and other policy makers hold the authority to act in the interest of their citizens.
