Mask Mandate for Oak Ridge
The Issue
In light of the significantly high levels of Covid 19 found in the waste water in Oak Ridge, we, the undersigned, would like to ask the mayor of Anderson County, Terry Frank to allow our city officials to consider the implementation of a mask mandate for all individuals and businesses in Oak Ridge.
If people were to required to wear masks when out in public, we could reduce the spread of Covid-19 in our area. Unfortunately, too many people are resistant to the idea of voluntarily wearing a mask and a mandate is needed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance states Americans should wear masks in all “public settings when around people outside of their household."
As citizens of Anderson County and residents of the city of Oak Ridge, we must stand together to show our support for a mask mandate. Our schools are asking for our assistance in order to remain open by wearing a mask and social distancing. Our businesses cannot afford to shut down again and a mask mandate will help ensure that they can remain open. Our elderly/immunocompromised populations remain at high risk and should not be considered collateral damage.
A mask mandate will help stop the spread of the virus as well as keep our hospitals at a capacity in which they can treat those who are ill. This is not a political issue, but rather an issue of public health.
Please sign the petition to let our officials know that you support a mask mandate for the city of Oak Ridge.
