Right now the City of Greater Geelong Council are dredging the Eastern Beach swimming enclosure, destroying the seagrass which is an important habitat for marine life.

As a regular swimmer in this enclosure, I've marvelled at the abundance of marine life that live in and feed on this seagrass. Spotting rays, globefish, snapper and leatherjacket sheltering in the seagrass is an incredible experience and I swim here because it is a natural environment, and it ought to be protected. 

The council claim they are dredging the enclosure to improve the swimming experience. But destroying habitat threatens the health and appeal of one of Geelong's biggest tourist drawcards.

Dredging the bay and disturbing the seabed could also pose health risks to the people who swim and play at Eastern Beach. Corio Bay has a long history of industrial use and dredging may stir up dangerous contaminants buried in the sand.

Let Geelong Council know that you care about protecting Eastern Beach.
