Homelessness in Toronto is becoming an epidemic with more citizens left on the streets of our city. We need more shelters and beds to get people off the streets and into a warm safe area during the winter months. We also need to do our part as citizens of this great city to help these people become independent so they can provide themselves with food and shelter by helping them to become employed. We don’t know their story and many of us are afraid to ask, are they here because of illness, unemployment, mental health issues, discrimination? We cannot ignore this issue regardless of the reason these are our people and we need to help them. My name is Lyndsay Dukharan and I am a grade 10 student at Northern Secondary School, I believe it is everyone’s right to have a home and to be safe and out of the cold. No one should have to chose between food or shelter. I am asking you to sign this petition and let’s get the attention of our Mayor @johntory our Premier @fordnation and our city counsellors.
