Stop Thorndike from razing Barker Forest to build a housing development in Greeley Park
The Issue
Thorndike Development Corporation is in negotiation to purchase a 13-acre parcel of land (the "Barker Forest") at the top of Bartlett Street in the North End of Nashua. They plan to raze this rare and unique urban forest in order to build 43 high-density condos on the parcel, which is surrounded by existing forested areas of Greeley Park, owned by the City of Nashua. There will be one ingress/egress to the development, at the corner of Bartlett and Wellington Streets, significantly increasing traffic through the neighborhood. Each condo will be two stories high, approximately 2,200 sq ft each. The Barker Forest is parcel 57-3 at Nashua GIS and is surrounded by Greeley Park (parcel 57-1 to the west of Concord St and 48-2 to the east).
Thorndike Corp has said in a public meeting on 11/17/2021 that if there's significant opposition to their plan, they'll walk away from it.
Please voice your opposition to this development plan and encourage the Mayor of Nashua to conduct a Highest and Best Use analysis of the land and explore all possible opportunities for the city to purchase the Barker Forest and expand the abutting Greeley Park urban forest.
NOTE: donations support change.org and help promote this petition. Donations are not being collected to help purchase this parcel nor do they go to the City of Nashua, Adlerman Klee, nor to Mr. Metzger. More info on change.org donations is available here.
