Don't Move Local Elections to ODD YEAR Cycles in Chesapeake

Don't Move Local Elections to ODD YEAR Cycles in Chesapeake
The Issue
The Virginia Assembly recently passed a law requiring local elections to be held in November starting in 2022. Mayor West is proposing that we move local elections to ODD YEARS, to coincide with state elections. 55,000 MORE people showed up to vote in 2020, as opposed to 2017.
Additionally, if Mayor West makes this change, ten of Chesapeake's current elected officials' terms would be shortened by one year. Please email council@cityofchesapeake.net today to let your voice be heard.
Please circulate this petition to tell Mayor West and the Chesapeake City Council that the people have spoken. We want to keep the elected people we voted for, and we want to have local elections when there is the highest turnout.
Let your voices be heard. Tell Mayor West, the City Attorney, and the Chesapeake City Council "NO" to moving local elections to ODD years, so that they do not coincide when voter turnout is highest.
