Did you know that Mission B.C. doesn't  have a tree bylaw?  That came to a surprise to me too ! I recently called the district to ask about a neighbour who is removing several very large trees from his yard located at the top edge of a steep ravine. This not only puts his house at risk of a slide but also the neighbouring homes. The district has no power to stop anyone from doing this they can only 'suggest' that a geotechnical report be done.  What if your neighbour decides to clear cut his property or puts you, your family and friends lives at risk just to 'improve' his view.  

I would like to bring this to council with the intent to get the ball rolling in the creation of a Tree Bylaw and also consider putting a permit system in place when it comes to "protected" and "large diameter" trees.  Maple Ridge and Abbotsford both have these Bylaws in place, Mission needs to have one too.  

 I am not trying to save all the trees in Mission but I am concerned with the fact anyone with a chainsaw can create significant damage to a neighbourhood with out any concern for the safety of others. Please sign today and share.  Thank You
