On 30 April 2018, the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, announced the relocation of Peter Lloyd Leisure Centre from its existing home in Tuebrook, to the site of the former fruit & veg market on Edge Lane, almost 2 miles away. 

Tuebrook & Stoneycroft ward is one of the most deprived areas of Liverpool, and the loss of this important amenity would be a severe blow to the community it has served over the last 31 years. 

Peter Lloyd is used by thousands of local residents, many of whom rely solely on public transport, and the proposed new site on Edge Lane is not on any direct bus route from Tuebrook. It is also used by several local schools, any switch to a centre away from the area would surely cost more and have a bigger carbon footprint.

We implore the Mayor to start an immediate public consultation and to rethink this ill-considered decision, and either:

• Rebuild Peter Lloyd on the existing site, or
• Relocate Peter Lloyd to a different site, but still within the Tuebrook & Stoneycroft ward, or
• Renovate the existing centre.
