Keep the Heritage Market in Liverpool!!!

The Issue

This is a petition to ask the Mayor of Liverpool and Liverpool City Council to keep The Heritage Market in the City and not allow it to leave and move to Sefton.

The Heritage Market has been in existence for over 30 years and is the North West’s biggest market attracting locals and tourists to Liverpool every weekend. It plays an important part of the city’s retail and cultural offer. Liverpool’s current markets are a disgrace compared to those of other cities…

Liverpool City Council had promised to find The Heritage Market another site after they moved out of Stanley Dock to allow a major re-development to take place and since then they have turned their back on the Heritage Market by refusing two sites even though they had initially supported planning applications.

The council alongside their 'market partners' Geraud Markets are now planning on opening their own Sunday Market in Edge Lane against the wishes of local businesses and residents forcing The Heritage Market to leave the city…

Independent operators should be given the opportunity to run their businesses in the city and not be forced out by the Council and a multinational French company in Geraud monopolising the market trade in Liverpool.

The Heritage Market has directly contributed to the local economy, through opportunities for independent retailing, local employment and business start up opportunities (especially those available to unemployed 18-24 year olds).

Please sign our petition to support independent traders and help keep a Liverpool institution in our city!
