Ban the use of body-gripping traps in the City of Calgary

This petition made change with 1,301 supporters!

Every year, domestic animals and non-target species are being caught in body-gripping traps (including leg-hold, Conibear and snares) and such traps are inhumane by their very nature and can lead to devastating pain and suffering of animals. Trapping is an unnecessary attempt to control wildlife populations and to support an unnecessary and irrelevant industry. Better, truly humane alternatives exist to prevent conflict and promote co-existence.

Please introduce policy to ban the use of all body-gripping traps (including leg-hold, Conibear and snare-type traps) and support co-existence strategies that are based on the best available scientific practices. The City has the power to do so under the Alberta Municipal Act 2000 (section 7 h).

This online, world-wide petition is in support of a paper petition also available for residents of the City of Calgary.
