The General Mariano Alvarez, officially the Municipality of General Mariano Alvarez and often shortened as GMA, is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. The municipality has a land area of 9.40 square kilometers or 3.63 square miles which constitutes 0.62% of Cavite's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 172,433. This represented 3.97% of the total population of Cavite province, or 1.06% of the overall population of the CALABARZON region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 18,344 inhabitants per square kilometer or 47,502 inhabitants per square mile. The General Mariano Alvarez is geographically located at coordinate’s approximately 121.049531° degrees longitude and 14.28590° degrees latitude. It is northeastern boundaries of Cavite Province and Laguna. 

We can see that GMA has a small land area, and I guest the population is slightly increasing, and it has many business establishments as well.

The issue that some GMAians see is that it may or not only a superficial issue (Mababaw na isyu) but it still needs to be addressed. The following are the issue that somehow need to be addressed are:

1.) Lack of agricultural development - We know that GMA has a small land, but still we need to reserve some Agricultural Land if ever. We need to have some Agricultural Land to avoid buying expensive food or to prevent rising food prices, and also to reduce hunger in the GMA area. 

If ever there will be a reserve Land for Agriculture we must increase the Livelihood of the GMAians. How can we improve livelihood?

• Create sustainable agricultural livelihood opportunities for GMAians in agriculture.
• Ensure food and nutrition security at the household and the community level.
• Improve the skills and capabilities of GMAians in agriculture to support farm-based activities

2.) Problem of parking lots - There are some vehicles are parking along the side of congressional roads. This can be a cause of problem for the other vehicles, especially the transportation vehicles. This can increase the chance of heavy traffic and accidents because our road in not wide enough even though it has 4 lanes, that's why we must build/ renovate a parking lot in some or every establishment to reduce the vehicles parking along the side of the congressional roads. 

3.) Problem of waste disposal - As the population increases the number of wastes increases as well. We know that we are doing something about this problem, but we need to improve our waste management to lessen the problem of wastes. Thus the GMA has a small land area and the problem is that we have a few spaces for landfills, that's why we must think an another ways or methods of properly disposing the wastes. We must also teach the GMAians on how to manage properly the wastes.

4.) Problem of water utilities - In some Barangay of GMA, they are experiencing a water problem because GMA have a limited amount of water source, that's why every Barangay has its schedule on when they should have access to water source. I hope that we can still improve the water supply of GMA so that we can encourage some companies to build their business here in GMA. So we must think another ways/methods on how we gonna manage the water source to have a stable water supply.

5.) Adolescent pregnancy - Teen pregnancy is a health issue that has an effect on all of us. A child having a baby as a teenager is more likely to face critical social issues like poverty, poor education, risky behaviors that lead to poor health issues, and child welfare. The financial cost of teens having babies is financially devastating. This problem can also rapidly increase the population that will lead to overpopulation of GMA, and when this happen it will result of depletion of resources because there will be a high demand of resources needed by the people.

For some people we can see that the GMA needs more improvement and we need to be willing to make the Municipality of GMA reach its vision.

The Vision of GMA: "General Mariano Alvarez, Center of Commercial, Industrial, Transportation, Agro-Tourism, and Human Resource in the Eastern Part of Cavite were highly competitive, multi-talented, united and God-loving GMAians living in a strong economy towards disaster and climate-resilient, balanced and safe environment under a firm, transparent and responsive leadership".

If we want these things to happen we must be true in serving the people of GMA. We must be dedicated and willing to do the things that will benefit the people of GMA.
