TNR in Marikina City

The Issue

The Marikina City Veterinary Office is regularly rounding up the strays. It has gone viral one time. I regularly see abused, neglected strays on my news feed every single day. And it is very saddening. Thus, I think it is necessary to come up with a more sustainable solution to stray population management. As you may well know, impounding cats and dogs and sending them to their deaths due to human irresponsibility is not working. It is not an effective and efficient solution. It is not the right answer. Spaying and neutering is the most humane, long-term solution that should be done in Marikina. It is already being practiced in other cities like Cavite, Pasig, Mandaluyong, and more.

With the help of compassionate Marikenos, I think we can do this thing together. I have contacted the Philippine Pet Birth Control Center Foundation (PPBC) and asked for costing. They spay/neuter cats for only Php 500.00 and dogs at Php 1, 000 (<20kg). I can help conceptualize a fundraising program just to make this happen. I do hope that Dr. Manuel Carlos will also be on board with this project.

A Facebook group called Marikina Cat and Dog Lovers is regularly updating the locals with what’s happening with our four-legged friends who were unfortunately captured by the CVO van. Currently, it has more than a thousand members. Getting each member to donate at least Php 100.00 can save so many lives and can cut costs for the City Veterinary Office because by then there will be less need to go around and capture cats and dogs.

I hope you hear us out Mayor. Thank you!
