Mayor Mamdani: Give New Yorkers a Day Off for the Knicks Parade

Mayor Mamdani: Give New Yorkers a Day Off for the Knicks Parade
The Issue
New York City hasn’t celebrated a Knicks championship since 1973. That’s 53 years! And right now, this entire city is alive in a way most of us have never witnessed in our lifetimes.
If the Knicks win it all, the parade through the Canyon of Heroes will be unlike anything this generation has seen. We’re asking Mayor Mamdani, a Knicks fan himself, to close schools and as much city work as possible on parade day so that every New Yorker can be part of this moment.
This isn’t just for the kids. This is for the lifelong fans who have waited decades for this. The ones who suffered through the heartbreak, the rebuilds, and the near misses. Every New Yorker deserves to stand on that parade route and celebrate together.
New York is one city. And right now we are united behind one team.
Let’s celebrate like it.
