Let The Sidewalks Be Used For Walking, Not As Shelters

Let The Sidewalks Be Used For Walking, Not As Shelters
The Issue
ATTENTION CASTRO DISTRICT 8 RESIDENTS
We, the residents of The Castro, have rights too. We are facing multiple crises simultaneously and no one in City Government seems to be listening.
The homeless tent dwellers outside our doors pose an ominous threat to our health and safety. Being out on the street without services also poses a threat to the tent dwellers. The daily buildup of trash, needles and human waste pose a real threat to our wellbeing. Blocked sidewalks, not allowing the movement of the disabled is contrary to federal ADA regulations. A dramatic increase in rodent infestation is also a byproduct of our present policies.
Although the Board of Supervisors recently legislated to rent 8,200 hotel rooms, many of the tent dwelling population on the streets may not benefit from the legislation. Either because they don’t fit the criteria to move into a room, and/or the difficulty the city will have implementing the change.
We demand drastic action be taken to MOVE THESE PEOPLE AND TENTS OFF OF OUR STREETS NOW!
We fully back a plan to allow for the mandatory movement of these people and tents to designated areas such as school playgrounds or parking lots. In the Castro area of District 8, that would be the playground/parking lot behind The Everett Middle School. We also want these policies in place by April 26, the deadline for the City's deadline for acquiring the 8200 rooms. At that time, we want to reclaim our sidewalks for walking and to be freed from this unhealthy and life threatening predicament.
