Fireworks are great part of celebrating 4th of July and other holidays, but are only safe when handled by professionals.

Recently Pennsylvania repealed a law that made fireworks illegal and now it seems like they are being set off every night! 

They can be pretty, but they are loud and cause distress to pets as well as people with PTSD. Even more dangerous, they can easily damage property or even set a house or an entire neighborhood on fire by landing on a roof.

Currently, small fireworks (under 50mg of explosive material) are legal in Pennsylvania, but as anyone who lives in the city can tell you, those is not the type that inconsiderate neighbors are setting off on an almost nightly basis.

We ask Mayor Kinney and the leadership of Philadelphia to pass a law making it a crime to set off fireworks within the Philadelphia city city limits. Not a ticket, not a fine, but an actual crime punishable by jail time. We need an actual deterrent.

Fireworks are explosives, and should only be handled by certified professionals. It is only a matter of time before serious injury or property damage occurs.

Since fireworks can be obtained online, we ask that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives get involved, as well as the Pennsylvania State Police to ensure that fireworks are not being brought into the city.
