Thunder Bay Water Watch
13 Dec 2015
The City is holding an "information session" Wed. Dec. 16 , 6-8 pm at the North End Community centre. Please attend , as it will be our last chance to be heard and to ask our questions , before the chemicals are added. There has been no notice , that we are aware of, that has been mailed to the citizens in the affected area. An email came to TBWW asking , "Rather close to Christmas! Are they hoping public is too busy preparing for holiday season to attend!?!?" Please take an evening break from this busy season to be at this event and let it be known that we are a community that truly cares about the long term health of our water . Chemicals will be added to our water supply beginning Jan 11th. It will begin in Current River, without the consent of the people in the area. If we don't speak up now, we will be even less likely to stop it when the chemical is then added to the entire city water supply. It is both unnecessary and dangerous, and that is explained in detail in Thunder Bay Water Watch's letter and petition (which has over 400 signatures & counting ) to the City ; https://www.change.org/p/mayor-keith-hobbs-glen-murray-stop-the-addition-of-sodium-hydroxide-to-our-drinking-water/u/14116026 TBWW was contacted by an individual who sent a letter to City Council members asking for answers. An email reply sent from Mayor Keith Hobbs nov 21, 2015; "Actually I asked my Acting City Manager for an update on this issue after I received your e-mail. I want to be briefed on what this chemical is and if it is a necessary way to go. Personally, I would like to see a lead pipe replacement program put in place. Will keep you posted. - Keith , P.S. Thanks for voting for me" It is very similar to what Mayor Hobbs said many months ago , privately and publically when asked about this issue , at the meeting with Maude Balow from the Council of Canadians. Will Mayor Hobbs follow through on his intent? Has Current River City councillor , Andrew Folds , spoken clearly and been involved in this serious issue affecting his ward? Come to this Wed evening's meeting and have these and any other concerns and comments heard by the city and community members.
