Keep Danbury's Children Safe

Keep Danbury's Children Safe
Why this petition matters
This petition is to express our strong opposition to #21-09 and any use of 3 Lake Avenue Extension LLC, 3 Lake Ave. Ext., (G15005), CA-80 Zone, Use Variance Sec. 5.B.2.a as “shelter for homeless with conditions.”
While the application for a rezone has been withdrawn by the applicant, the facility is still being operated as a shelter as our Mayor Joseph Cavo stated during the public forum, for the Mentally ill, drug addicted and homeless persons being brought into our community. Our Police chief also agreed and confirmed three sexual assaults during the first 120 days of 2021. We are petitioning that this activity and use of the facility cease until further review by the city, an independent service to assess the impact and danger to the children in the surrounding communities.
Danbury must put the safety of its children as the number 1 priority and do everything to ensure their safety, in the local schools and surrounding communities within walking distance of the facility.
The current use and future proposed rezoning is detrimental to the area. The volume of police engagement with the address and surrounding areas has increased substantially since the temporary use of this facility as a shelter is alarming, and the proximity to multiple local elementary schools is of grave concern. Again, the safety of our children is and will continue to be our community’s number one priority. Danbury cannot put the children and the community at risk.
Danbury has the appropriate facilities and organizations to support our local homeless. This mega shelter is unnecessary and poses a substantial risk to the safety of our community.
We urge you to disapprove the proposed rezoning and use of this facility as a shelter and low income dwelling.
Thank you for your continued service and support of our communities.
