Refund March TTC Metropass Holders due to Covid-19

Many residents, specifically students/seniors/post-secondary students are not able to use their March Monthly Metropass due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic. With the shutdown of workplaces, schools, businesses and public services, residents must remain at home to comply with the state of emergency declared by Premier Ford since March 17. Most residents will not be using their passes for at least half of this month. We need a refund or an extension on our March Metropasses into April. We should not have to pay while empty TTC vehicles are operating in the next few weeks. With the loss of jobs and nowhere to go, more specifically, low-income and marginalized Metropass holders are at a devastating loss.

We, transit riders, demand that you refund half the cost of a March Metropass to all Metropass holders:

Senior/Student/Post Secondary Student = Refund of $64 (new price as of March 1 is $128.15)
Adult = Refund of $78 (new price as of March 1 is $156)

For 12-month pass holders, we demand you refund half of the price for March or allow them an extension into the new year.

For Downtown Express pass holders, we demand a refund of half of the price or an extension of the Downtown Express Pass into April.

If not, give us an EXTENSION to when the pandemic is over so we can use the pass without having to pay any additional costs. TTC raised prices on adult, senior/student and post-secondary metropasses this month. If TTC has funds for a costly anti-fare evasion campaign and to hire more fare inspectors, then there is money to compensate us for our lost travel time on the TTC. Many businesses, institutions, transit agencies and all three levels of government are accommodating and helping people out in a crisis like the one we are currently facing. Why can’t the TTC do the same?
