Open the One O'Clock Club in Wapping for more play sessions and make it available to hire for parties and events.

One of the most successful amenities that Wapping has on offer for parents of under-5s is the One O'Clock Club; a sanity-saver for many parents, a lifeline to meet fellow parents and make new friends, and a safe and well-equipped learning environment for our children, all within a beautiful setting which also offers a safe outside space (a feature many properties don't benefit from in central London).

The space is used not only by Wapping locals but by families from Shadwell, Limehouse, Stepney, Docklands, Whitechapel, Tower Hill, Rotherhithe and other surrounding neighbourhoods.

The One O'Clock Club has suffered years of cuts and now operates only 7 hours a week on the current timetable, 6.5 hours on the summer timetable.

An ironic case in point; it can't open at 1 o'clock as it can't afford to do so.

Wapping residents feel short-changed by the cuts over the years despite the private development and, no doubt, increase in tax contribution to Tower Hamlets.

Let's get together and appeal to Mayor John Biggs to open the Wapping One O'Clock Club for not only more play sessions and but also to allow parents and carers to host children's events at the space for a fee. If there are other barriers to hiring it out let's understand them clearly and try and make it a possibility. This kind of initiative would pay for itself, or even raise extra income for reinvestment.

These small victories mean so much, especially for our children.
