Many lives have been taken because of lack of funding at the Miami Dade Animal Services shelter. I have come up with a solution. The same way it costs $65 to adopt (not including the spay/neuter costs which are $50) it should cost $65 to owner surrender and $35 on Wednesdays. People would think twice about owner surrendering had they more information on the kill rates at shelters. In loving memory of all the innocent shelter dogs whom lives have been taken I ask you to please sign the petition even if you are not from Florida. The kill rates get higher every single day in Miami Dade Animal Services and there is no funding @mayorjimenez has taken away funding to use it on other causes. Let's look at the big picture. Just last week I watched 3 employees drag a chow chow that was screaming at the top of his lungs for help. He knew where he was going (the euth room). As I offered to adopt this dog on the spot the employees explained this would not be possible as this dog was "sick" and needed to be put down. No networking. No nothing. That dog had been at the shelter for exactly 2 hours because I watched his owner drop him off. I was told he was 9 years old but this senior boy did not deserve this kind of ending. He deserved a lot more love and dignity than that after being his owners companion for nine whole years. The more I see things like this happen- the more it motivates me to make a change. If it were not free to owner surrender, people would think twice. Maybe that owner thought his dog would stand a chance and someone would see him or maybe he just couldn't afford his bills but MDAS did not even give this boy a fighting chance. It's not only old dogs that die. Puppies too. No dog of any age is safe ! Let's make a change together in order to help the dogs in our shelters
