Tell Redwood City Council Not to Reduce Farm Hill and Jefferson Traffic Lanes!

The Issue

The decision to reduce the traffic lanes on Farm Hill and Jefferson down to one lane each way plus a bike lane, even if just a pilot program, goes against the majority of what Redwood City residents want.

This is going to create traffic delays for those traveling along these roads and cause congestion for those living in the area.  Furthermore, people will try to avoid this major route and will speed along alternative roads to try to cut down on their sitting in congested traffic on Farm Hill or Jefferson, thus causing the surrounding streets to become less safe. Although this concept may be reasonable for urban settings where cities are trying to encourage people to get out of their cars, it is the wrong way to slow traffic down or make it safer for bikes, pedestrians, etc. in this steep and hilly neighborhood where riding bikes and walking is not the preferred method of travel. This pilot isn't going to get people out of their cars or get people to use alternative transportation in this location. With the addition of growth in both jobs and local residents, we should be encouraging flow to and from a major highway, not restricting it!

This pilot project will cost the city valuable tax dollars; tax dollars that could be and should be spent elsewhere.

If the city wants to make Farm Hill and Jefferson safer, there are other means to consider including adding stop signs and stop lights, speed bumps, round-abouts, pedestrian crosswalks with proper signage or crossing guards and/or adding police presence.

This decision will effect many more people than those living along Farm Hill and Jefferson.  More notice and further opportunity for public input is requested before continuing this pilot program.
