Mayor Garcetti, you have failed to properly investigate the corruption at LA Animal Services and replace Brenda Barnette with an effective General Manager. Therefore, we, the undersigned, are advising you that WE WILL NOT VOTE FOR YOU AGAIN for Mayor of Los Angeles, unless you replace Brenda Barnette. We have provided you with petitions with thousands of signatures from your constituents, asking that Barnette be removed and LAAS reformed. We have sent you countless evidence of wrongdoing.

In Barnette's first year as GM, kill rates skyrocketed. Later, when kill rates went down, it was not because of any efforts by Ms. Barnette, but because a well funded national animal welfare group called Best Friends, came to Los Angeles, and ran a program called Pup My Ride in which they sent large numbers of adoptable puppies to other areas. Barnette does not deserve credit for the reduction in kill rates, as it would have happened regardless of who the General Manager was.

The same issues with animal cruelty occurring at LAAS, that we wrote to you about 3 years ago are still happening.  Animals are being killed unnecessarily for "space" even when there are 30-50 extra large open runs. Shelter supervisors are encouraged by Barnette to retaliate against any volunteers or rescues they dont like by terminating their privledges, and by killing the animals that they like, or denying those animals the right to be walked.

New volunteers who started at LAAS after we sent you the last petition, have already been terminated for making suggestions for improvements at the shelters... the very same reason that we detailed to you in the last petition. Volunteers who bring forth ideas for improvements are deemed troublemakers and targeted by management, and told they are making the shelter look bad. These are the same volunteers who are working for free, raising money for the shelter, and doing countless good deeds. They, as well as the animals they are caring for, are being punished, by corrupt managers, Barnette in particular.

We cannot in good faith, vote for you again, unless you replace Barnette with a manager who encourages people to bring forth ideas for change, and truly wants to make a difference, instead of a GM like Barnette, who continues to text on her phone and show a careless attitude at the meeting that are currently being held for show, in which LAAS pretends to want to hear the ideas of the public, but does not.
