Education Reform: More Diverse Curriculum with an Emphasis on Human Rights Courses

Education Reform: More Diverse Curriculum with an Emphasis on Human Rights Courses

The Issue

The current social unrest in our country has revealed the major flaws in our education system. The fact that most of the works of literature students are exposed to in their English classes are written by white men and the fact that most of us had never heard about Claudette Colvin and the Juneteenth holiday clearly show us that our education system is failing us. This petition aims to call for more diversity in our classrooms so that students are exposed to books written by people of color, taught about the history of people of color in the United States, and required to take human/civil rights courses in order to be better informed citizens. The only way to decrease discrimination in our country is to better educate our youth!
