Extend the Spray Park Season in Seattle

Extend the Spray Park Season in Seattle
The Issue
In the past the water activities in Seattle were primarily wading pools but over the last few years many spray parks have been built to provide water fun for the children of Seattle. Unlike wading pools, spray parks do not require a staff person. They use less water and are not on continuously, relying on people being at the park to utilize them. In a world where we are facing significant threat from climate change, spray parks are a great way for kids to enjoy water play without needing to hire staff and while being able to save and recycle water. Every year the City of Seattle shuts down the spray parks as of Labor Day despite the fact that the weather remains nice. This is a holdout from the days of wading pools and no longer meets the needs of the community. With mild, often warm weather up until October, Seattle children do not stop playing outside as of Labor day. Toddlers, preschoolers and homeschooling families would enjoy spray parks after Labor Day. Even kids in school could utilize spray parks after school. Mayor Murray and Seattle City Council - it's time to re-evaluate shutting down spray parks after Labor day. Please meet the needs of Seattle families and extend the spray park season.
