Change the Zoning Laws in Rock Hill and all of the surrounding cities of York County
The Issue
Rock Hill and the surrounding cities of York County are facing a crisis due to the lack of affordable housing. The tiny home movement is sweeping the nation and are the perfect housing solution for all Americans including but not limited to, Veterans, Millennials, the Elderly looking to downsize, and individuals or families making less than $20.00 an hour.
This housing shortage could easily be remedied if the Mayor and City Council of Rock Hill and the County Council of York County would amend the current zoning laws from a minimum of 850 heated square feet, down to a minimum of 125 square feet, and allow these homes to be placed on lots zoned from R1 to R12 making it possible for us to provide housing to the multitude of hard working citizens. It is not legal currently to build a home which is less than 850 sq. ft. or a house with only 1 bedroom. Although each city and county have their own zoning laws, most presently have obstacles for tiny houses.
