Re-open El Paso golf courses by May 1st, 2020.
The Issue
For the past month El Paso has been the unfortunate receiver of bad news when coming to the closing of our golf courses due to COVID-19. While every city in Texas allows their citizens to play all the golf they want, we in El Paso have to rely on mats, artificial turf, and nets to receive any entertainment golf-wise. Unrealistic indoor putting contests and the constant feeling of envy towards every other golfer in Texas has made this quarantine a living nightmare. Although this sickness has become a problem for every American, young or old; golf courses allow the continuance of social distancing, prevention of the spread, feelings of importance, and the need for Vitamin D (sunlight). This may be a stretch, but we as El Pasoans, young and old feel that golf courses need to be allowed to open back up. Coming from a golf course employee that was laid off and still hasn’t received unemployment benefits, it would lift a huge weight off the shoulders of employees, employers, and those in desperate need of a stress-relieving round of golf. There are many ways (sanitizing, distancing, and rules/regulations) that could be implemented just as before to stop/prevent the spread of this disease while still giving the El Paso people peace of mind on the golf course. Thank you and please sign.
