Is Having A "Big Lick" Horse Show @ Columbia (TN) Really Worth Spreading Covid-19 Virus?
The Issue
COLUMBIA, MAURY COUNTY, TN - Local “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiasts have announced plans to further risk the spread of the Covid-19 virus by holding the 69th annual Columbia “Big Lick” Horse Show at the Maury County Park, in Columbia, Tennessee on June 4 – 6, 2020.
This “Big Lick” horse show will bring exhibitors and spectators to Columbia, TN from surrounding Tennessee counties, and adjoining states, which are heavily infected with the Covid-19 virus.
The “Mass Gathering” will result in the spread of the Covid-19 virus, and bring dangerous exposure to the citizens of Columbia, Maury County, TN.

COVID-19 CASES CONTINUE TO RISE IN TENNESSEE
“The federal government’s “Guidelines for Opening Up America Again” has advised state and local governments to wait for a 14-day “downward trajectory” of cases.
So far this has not happened.
As a matter of fact, Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder and Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles have led the fight in Tennessee to stop the spread of Covid-19 cases. At times, Mayor Molder has been critical of Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s failure to implement measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 virus.
For example, the City of Columbia cancelled the annual “Mule Day” event set for April 2-5, 2020, which brings approximately 100,000 visitors to the area. The wisdom and good judgment by the leadership in Columbia, Maury County, TN resulted in a lower number of Covid-19 cases, compared to the adjoining counties such as Williamson County, and nearby Rutherford and Bedford Counties.
On May 1, 2020, the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration postponed its "Spring Fun Show" from May 21-23, 2020 to June 25-27, 2020 due to the threat of the Covid-19 virus. The TWH Directors made the right decision.
