Andrew McMillin started this petition to Mayor Brandon Whipple and

The petition was created to push the City of Wichita to allocate a percentage of the tax dollars we pay to clean up the Little Arkansas River corridor. This issue affects all of us in the community, but especially the local wildlife and ecology that can't fight for themselves. Please sign and share with others!

People travel hundreds of miles spending lavishly at their chance to enjoy pristine wild places around the US, most notably through our National Park System.

Yet, even as we rightfully enjoy the national park system, we must take care of the wild places in our own backyard, at home and in our communities, to promote a balanced ecosystem by restoring the river to its wild roots, cleaning up the water to promote the resources we've long neglected, repairing plant and wildlife habitats, and fostering a true tangible pride of place for future generations.

The governments overseeing Sedgwick County and the City of Wichita have long neglected the Arkansas River claiming that it's "safe" per federal standards, but yet it's full of trash from Styrofoam to grocery carts, full of phosphorous from agricultural run-off, and, to put it simply, smells bad, looks bad, and tarnishes the image of the community due to our seemingly unwillingness to extend a hand to mother nature.

This petition is a reminder to the leaders of this community, both governmental and private enterprise, that the Little and Big Arkansas Rivers belong to the People of Sedgwick County and Wichita Kansas.

We will not stand idly by while our civic offices sell the soul of the City for a quick buck.

We demand that the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County fund the restoration and enhancement of the ecological condition of the Arkansas River Corridor allotting an impactful percentage of tax dollars from all businesses and residences adjacent the river for river clean up and enhancement purposes.
