I want you to know that I support your strategic approach to Greenland, Canada, and the Panama Canal, as it aligns with the best interests of the United States. As a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Mayor of the District of Columbia, I share your concerns about the persistent conditions in our Nation’s Capital—especially when compared to the breathtaking development of cities like Dubai and Riyadh. I look forward to working with your administration to address these challenges. However, I urge you not to militarize the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and to recognize that the location of the FBI headquarters was determined through bipartisan agreement and community history. Neither agency is immune to overreach, and empowering them without oversight risks further abuse. The Black community has long endured systemic weaponization without access to the same legal and financial resources that protected you. Our community is still emerging from generations of disenfranchisement, including the historical denial of the right to read—a root cause of unemployment, incarceration, and crime. Access to capital remains a pressing issue, and despite Mayor Bowser’s 11 years in office, there has been little progress in ensuring economic equity, community development, and improved education. The Black family structure has deteriorated, with marriage rates plummeting from 80% in the 1960s to just 14% in 2025, leaving many single mothers raising children without fathers in the home. Finally, I urge collaboration with the Secretary of Education. The Department of Education plays a crucial role in civil rights enforcement and federal grants—support that students like me at the University of Maryland and Harvard University rely on to complete our studies. If I ever reach your level of leadership, I hope to have someone like Ernest "Doolum" Johnson to keep it 100. Thank you for your time and access. Best of luck.
