Petition updateMayor Bowser we do not want the Frank Reeves Center torn down. Authentic community controlDC Leadership Must Be Proactive, Not Reactive: Misguided Spending and Poor Planning Hurt Residents

Hello Everyone,

With all due respect, Phil, the Mayor of the District of Columbia must be proactive, not reactive. Executive leadership means planning for the future while using present resources wisely.

Using taxpayer money to house illegal immigrants in hotels, cover legal fees, and fund nonprofits is not a responsible use of city funds. Meanwhile, overseeing an estimated $20 billion in new development over the last decade while maintaining a double-digit unemployment rate has only fueled an affordable housing crisis, expanded a permanent underclass, and driven up the cost of living. This lack of strategic planning has directly contributed to rising crime and economic instability.

Balancing the 2025-2026 budget on the backs of the city’s most vulnerable residents is not leadership—it’s a failure of governance. No amount of political rhetoric can erase the consequences of these decisions. As the old saying goes, “A pack mule will look back.”
