At every community meeting we attend, the importance of building coalitions is emphasized. Unfortunately, residents feel their voices are not heard regarding development planning, affordable housing, crime, and bike lanes. The Department of Transportation, Zoning Commission, and DMPED are perceived as bullies and out of touch with the community. As a result, we anticipate a significant backlash.
On a positive note, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to DECCA, Dupont Citizens Association, Shaw Dupont, Coalition Association, Housing for Justice Coalition, Bens Chili Bowl, Lee's Flower Shop, CBS News, Committee for 100, Congress of Grassroots Organizers, Ed Hanlon, Wardman Park Committee for Reasonable Development, and all those who have shown a genuine interest in promoting the authentic inclusion of the community in developing public space and city-owned property.
