Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1B has a long history of placing the interests of developers above that of DC residents. The city is no longer in the 1970s & '80s, begging people to invest in the District of Columbia. This is a new day, and ANC's 1B resolution to support Legacy developers in tearing down the historic Reeves Center is ill-advised and uninformed.
Closing the wealth gap and respecting the historical accomplishments of native Washingtonians, specifically Black Broadway and the U Street corridor, is not a fly-by-night wish list.
We pray the Mayor and City Council will explore a new approach to this development that is in the best interest of the residents of the District of Columbia. Please sign our petition in support of not tearing down the Reeves Center.
