Justice for Families Attacked by Peel Cops, and for Over-Policed, Underfunded Communities

The Issue

Whereas Jamal Francique was wrongfully killed by the Peel Regional Police on January 9, 2020 in Mississauga; and

Whereas D’Andre Campbell was wrongfully killed by the Peel Regional Police on April 6, 2020 in Brampton; and

Whereas Ejaz Choudry was wrongfully killed by the Peel Regional Police on the night before Father’s Day on June 20, 2020 in Mississauga; and

Whereas Chantelle Krukpa and Michael Headley were wrongfully tased, and then Chantelle was wrongfully shot by the Peel Regional Police on Mother’s Day on May 10, 2020 in Mississauga,

Whereas individuals protesting the police murder of Ejaz Choudry during the Malton Blockade were wrongfully charged; and

Whereas Malton remains chronically underfunded and over-policed,

We, the undersigned, petition Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Mayor Patrick Brown, MP Navdeep Bains, MPP Deepak Anand, and Councillor Carolyn Parish to use the full extent of their powers to:

  1. Demand the identities and immediate termination without pay of all police officers involved in the wrongful deaths and injury of Jamal Francique, D’Andre Campbell, Ejaz Choudry, Chantell Krupka and Michael Headley; and
  2. Provide compensation to the families of Jamal Francique, D’Andre Campbell, Ejaz Choudry, Chantelle Krupka and Michael Headley as they request for their sufferings, and ensure all charges against survivors are dropped; and
  3. Ensure all charges against the Malton Blockade protestors are dropped; and
  4. Permanently remove SROs from all institutions in the Peel District School Board; and
  5. Defund the Peel Regional Police and reallocate the money into community programming as recommended by the Malton People’s Movement and other community organizations in Malton.
