Officer Paul Abel has proven time and time again that he is not fit to serve as a member of Pittsburgh’s Police Department. He shows severe anger issues, has been charged with multiple DUIs and counts of aggravated assault while off duty, pressured his wife to file false charges to get the grandparents of her children arrested, has wrongfully detained multiple citizens, and when approaching citizens during the coronavirus pandemic does not wear his mask in accordance with CDC guidelines, potentially putting everyone he comes into contact with at risk. He has also used force on a 6 year old child and participated in a violent arrest that led to a 43-year old man's death.On Sunday, September 6th, Abel arrested a young man for simply approaching him and asking him about his mask. He threatened this young man with a taser despite the young man committing no crime.

We are asking Mayor Bill Peduto and Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert for Abel’s removal from the position of police officer as he is horribly unfit for the job. The citizens of Pittsburgh should not have to live in fear that one of the people who is supposed to protect them is exactly the kind of person that they need protection from. I implore you to do the right thing and remove this horribly dangerous man from our police force in order to keep this city safe. Our police officers are the people who should be protecting and serving us, not the people we need to be protected from.
