We object to zoning map&text amendments to develop a 17-story building in our community.

The Issue

WE THE UNDERSIGNED are writing to express our strong objection to the resolution of the City Planning Commission to support the applications of the developer, Atlantic Brooklyn LLC, for zoning map and text amendments to permit the construction of a 17-story building as proposed, at 1045 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11238.

WE NOTE that representatives of Atlantic Brooklyn LLC have never consulted with any representative of the Lefferts Place Block Association or any residents of Lefferts Place or neighboring blocks regarding the impact of the proposed project on light, air or other quality-of-life consequences for residents.  We have not been provided with the results of any study regarding these effects.

WE ARE GREATLY CONCERNED that the approval process was hastily ushered through Community Board 3 and the City Planning Commission, during the Covid19 pandemic, without any substantive or meaningful attempt by the developer or the authorities to inform affected residents and properly assess the impact upon them.

WE ARE DEEPLY TROUBLED that this flawed process represents a continuation of the methods that have been used for generations by those with power to force damaging impacts upon the powerless in our community, without intervention from the agencies and representatives that are there to protect us.

WE ACCORDINGLY REQUEST that the applications BE DENIED and that the developer be directed to amend its proposal in order to comply with the zoning map and text unamended.
