Keep Ave 26 Family Night Market in Bell

The Issue

We are asking that the City of Bell allow us the opportunity to continue  providing the family night market for the community. We, the street vendors, have come together and put in place rules and regulations to abide by so that we can continue service as soon as possible. Our goal is to create a thriving market in the City of Bell with security, cleanliness, and organization in order to avoid previous issues we faced in Lincoln Heights. We do not want to be a burden to anyone nor are we asking for handouts.  All we want is a fair shot.

We hereby promise:

  1. To have a cleaning crew in place and trash removal every night. (Like we already have been doing.)
  2. That absolutely no illegal alcohol sales will be permitted.
  3. We will hire security to minimize any criminal activity.

  4. All vendors will have seller permits in order to file & pay taxes.
  5. A strict 1:00 AM closure time will be enforced.

We believe these steps will resolve the issues faced previously.  The fact that 5400 Rickenbacker Road is not near a residential area also resolves another huge issue we faced before. We have also talked to the surrounding owners/managers and have not received any complaints.

Criminalizing street and sidewalk vendors hurts low income communities, especially Latin and immigrant families simply trying to get by. Councilmember Saleh said it best, “In Bell, it doesn’t matter if your roots are from Tennessee, Lebanon, or Mexico; it doesn’t matter if you’re Christian or Muslim. Bell is a place where hardworking people of all walks of life live together. Where our differences give us sabor, but our similarities give us strength.” We also stand by this and hope we can serve and be a part of this wonderful community. We are also willing to participate in fundraising for local schools and bring awareness to local community programs. Ave 26 Family Night Market was created by families for families, and we are fully committed to doing things the right way if given the chance.
