The Issue

This petition is born out of personal experience of Joelle Payom, a testament to the old adage that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

The story behind this international day is deeply personal, but it's also universal. It speaks to a global issue that affects or will affect 1/2 of us all - harassment in the world of work.

Harassment is not just an individual problem; it's a societal one. It impacts human and financial resources, people and structures alike. In fact, one-third of working individuals report experiencing unwelcome behavior in the past year alone. Over their entire working life, this rate rises to half.

The human cost of workplace harassment is immeasurable - lost potential, damaged relationships, mental health issues. Its economic impact can be quantified between 3% and 7% of the GDP. The financial burden on businesses due to decreased productivity and increased turnover resulting from workplace harassment is immense.

This issue requires international consideration; it needs a careful approach and cross-functional incident management at all levels of society.

We call upon the United Nations to officially recognize May 24 as an International Day against Harassment and for Inclusion in World of Work. This recognition will not only validate the problem but also serve as an important step towards creating safer work environments for everyone.

Please sign this petition if you believe no one should have to endure harassment at their place of work!
