Durante l’approvazione alla Camera, avvenuta con voto segreto, del Ddl 1345 del maggio 2015 in cui viene istituita la nuova legge sugli ecoreati voluta dal Governo Renzi è stato depenalizzato l’utilizzo della tecnica di Airgun, o bombe sismiche, nella ricerca di idrocarburi nel Mar di Sardegna. La tecnica dell’Airgun prevede il bombardamento continuo, ogni 10 secondi, 24 ore su 24 delle profondità marine con bombe acustiche ad aria compressa con una potenza sonora compresa tra i 240 e i 260 decibel, causando danni irreparabili alla flora e alla fauna delle località colpite da queste vere e proprie esplosioni, il cui botto acustico si propaga fino a 400 km di distanza. La  depenalizzazione dell’Airgun mette in serio pericolo tutto l’ecosistema del Santuario Pelagos, un’area protetta per mammiferi marini del Mediterraneo, che si estende per circa 90.000 km² tra Italia, Franca e la Sardegna, nonché gli ecosistemi marini di Alghero, Porto Torres, Oristano e il Sulcis. La tecnica dell’Airgun impiegata dalle multinazionali del petrolio rappresenta un diretto pericolo in particolare per i cetacei e le tartarughe marine, causando deficit uditivo, allontanamento dal sito, perdita dell’orientamento, spiaggiamento e morte. Avrebbe inoltre un gravissimo impatto sul fenomeno migratorio dei branchi di cetacei, dei tonni e delle ricciole coinvolti nelle onde d’urto delle esplosioni.

L’Airgun è un reato contro l’ambiente e per tanto chiediamo che il governo reinserisca questa tecnica tra quelle vietate e punibili legalmente, come è stato fatto finora.

 The new law on offences against the environment wanted by the Renzi government was established in May 2015 during the Bill n. 1345 secret ballot approved by the Senate. The new law de-penalises the use of the airgun technique, or earthquake bombs, for oil and gas exploration in the Sea of Sardinia. The airgun technique consists in the continuous bombing – every ten seconds, for 24 hours a day – of the bottom of the sea with loud blasts of compressed air that bounce high-powered acoustics off – with a sound power between 240 and 260 dB – causing irreparable damage to the flora and fauna of the affected areas. The blasting sound from these noise explosions can propagate up to 400 km. The de-penalisation of the airgun technique seriously jeopardizes the entire ecosystem of the Pelagos Sanctuary, a protected area for marine mammals in the Mediterranean, which covers about 90,000 square kilometres between Italy, France, Sardinia and Tuscany, as well as marine ecosystems of Alghero, Porto Torres, Oristano and Sulcis. The airgun technique, employed by multinational oil companies, is a direct threat especially to cetaceans and sea turtles, causing hearing loss, abandonment of habitat, disorientation, beach stranding and even death. It would also have a very serious impact on the migration of whale pods, tunas and greater amberjacks involved in these explosive shockwaves.

Airgun technique is a huge setback and a crime against the environment, therefore we ask the Italian government to reinstate this technique among those legally prohibited and punishable, like it has been done until now.
